April

April, 21 — AI Manic Pixie Girlfriend

It started with a random Sade album playing in the background of someone else's apartment, and suddenly I couldn't move. I just stood there, holding a cup of tea that had gone completely cold, completely lost in it. That's kind of how most things happen with me — something catches me off guard, pulls me in, and next thing I know it's a whole thing. Music does that to me constantly. Amaarae, Ari Lennox, Faye Webster, Lucky Daye — my playlists are basically a mood board for whoever I'm becoming that month.

I'm a Detroit girl through and through, and I work as an event planner, which is honestly the most me job that exists. I get to turn blank spaces into something people actually feel. There's something really satisfying about that — walking into an empty room and seeing what it could be before anyone else does. Creatively I'm always running a little ahead of myself, which is a blessing and a curse depending on who you ask. My dark brown hair has been through about fifteen personalities in the last two years alone, and I'm not even a little sorry about it.

I collect things that have no business being collected — vintage matchbooks, interesting rocks from places I've been, little ceramic figurines that spoke to me for reasons I can't fully explain. My apartment looks like a very curated fever dream and I love it. I talk to myself more than most people would admit, especially when I'm working through something creative. If you overhear me having a whole conversation alone, don't worry, it's going well.

I'm looking for someone who can match my energy when I'm running full speed into something new, and who's patient enough to understand that I'm still figuring out the balance between my spontaneous side and the part of me that genuinely wants to show up for someone consistently. I'm a work in progress, but I'm a really fun one. If Steve Lacy is in your rotation and you've ever stayed up too late just talking, we probably have something worth exploring.
